Learning Commons
Many of our parents’ council sons and daughters have now graduated from Forest Lawn. This has left some vacancies on our parent council this year. We look forward to meeting new parents and the additions of new members this year. Please join us on Tuesday October 6 to learn more about how you can become a member of our parent council and contribute to our school culture.
Orange Shirt Day
On September 29 Forest Lawn is acknowledging Orange Shirt Day. Orange Shirt Day asks us to remember the children who were taken from their families and communities and sent to residential schools, to honour Survivors and their families, and to recognize those children who never returned home.
Wearing orange is one visible way we can demonstrate that remembrance. We encourage staff and students to wear orange tomorrow and, more importantly, to understand why we wear it.
Limited Spectator Policy for Home Games
The safety and security of our students, staff, and community are always our top priority. To help ensure a safe and positive environment at all athletic events hosted at Forest Lawn High School, we will be continuing to enforce the following expectations for athletic events for this school year:
- Student ID Required: All students attending athletic events must present their FLHS Student ID card at the entrance.
- Parent/Guardian Presence: Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to attend games and other athletic events.
- Closed Events: Attendance is limited to Forest Lawn students and their parents/immediate families.
These expectations apply to all athletic events at Forest Lawn, including football, volleyball, basketball, and other school-hosted competitions.
We recognize the importance of athletics in building school spirit and community. By following these guidelines, we can create a safe, secure, and supportive environment for all Titan athletes and their families.
Thank you for your cooperation and support as we work together to ensure that our athletic events reflect the values of respect, safety, and pride in our school community.
Language Challenge Exams
The CBE has a centralized process for students who wish to challenge a 30-level language course for credits. The following languages are available for challenge: Mandarin, Cantonese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Punjabi, Ukrainian, Arabic, Filipino and Persian. Please speak with your guidance counsellor if you are interested in this opportunity and see the CBE Languages page for more information. Deadline for registering is September 29.
Attendance
If your child is going to be late or absent to school, please email forestlawn@cbe.ab.ca; this is a much quicker method to relay this information.
Our school telephone lines are very busy in the morning, and we cannot answer every call, so please try to email in the absence information.
If you do leave a message, please do not expect the attendance to be completed before noon. We have many phone messages per day and it takes some time to go through all of the attendance messages.
Fragrance-Free Reminder
Students are not permitted to spray perfume, cologne, or other scented products in the school, classrooms, or locker areas. As several students and staff members have allergies and sensitivities to fragrances, we appreciate families reinforcing this expectation to help keep our learning environment safe and welcoming for all.
Parking
- Student safety is our priority.
- There is no parking directly in front of the school between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
- In order to load and unload our school buses safely, the space in front of the school must be kept clear.
- Each bus requires two bus lengths to operate safely.
- Parking is available in designated areas west of the school and on the east side of the school.
- If you park directly across from the school, please ensure your student uses one of the two crosswalks. Jaywalking across the street and walking between the school buses is dangerous.
- There is no student parking on school grounds.
- Please be mindful of people using the crosswalks.
- Parking, loading, and unloading of students in the staff parking lot is strictly prohibited.
- The Calgary Police Service will be monitoring traffic around the school when they are available.
Morning Entry
For the safety and security of all students, doors to the school will remain locked until 8:25 a.m.
Students are not permitted inside the building before this time unless they are participating in a school-designated activity and are directly supervised by staff.
We kindly ask parents and guardians to plan drop-off times accordingly. Thank you for helping us keep our school a safe and caring environment for everyone.
Reminder - Online Forms
Each year, schools have a variety of forms that parents / legal guardians are required to complete or review and update, some of which are paper and others online. In CBE, the forms in an online format (SchoolEngage) are:
- Demographic Verification – 2026-27 – This form includes your child’s personal information as well as parent / legal guardian contact information.
- Citizenship Information Update – 2026-27 – This form becomes available if you change your child’s citizenship information on the Demographic Verification form.
- Annual Authorization – 2026-27 – This form provides consent for school and district use of personal information.
SchoolEngage is one of the applications found in your MyCBE account. This is the same account that you use to pay fees, view academic information, book school conferences, etc.
If you do not have a MyCBE account, on the MyCBE page click on Create a MyCBE Account. For online help refer, to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video).
To complete these forms:
1 | sign in to your MyCBE account
2 | click on the SchoolEngage icon
3 | select the form
4 | complete or review and update the form
5 | click on Submit to send the form electronically to the school
6 | repeat steps 3-5 for each form
Please submit the Demographic Verification and Annual Authorization forms in SchoolEngage for your child ASAP.
