Art 10 (FNA14005)                                                                                                         5 credits

Art 10 students will develop their techniques, skills, and understanding in the fundamentals of Art. This class is welcoming to students of all skill levels and abilities as it explores the concepts of composition and design in art.  Throughout the semester students will be challenged to take risks and engage their problem solving abilities as they create works of art in a variety of mediums.  Students learn to express themselves visually through drawing realism using pencils, painting different subject matters using acrylic paints and watercolors, and a variety of other various projects

Art 11 (FNA14055)                                                                                                         5 credits

Step into the world of functional art in Art 11, where history meets hands-on creativity. This course invites you to play with materials like stained glass and textiles to craft sculptures and make prints that are not just art, but also functional pieces of your daily life. Perfect for all skill levels, this class offers a tactile exploration of how art has shaped our world, from ancient times to today. Come create, learn, and appreciate art in a way that's both fun and enlightening.

Art 20 (FNA24005)                                                                                                         5 credits

Art 20 students will continue to develop and refine techniques and explore a personal selection of expressions. They will use the vocabulary of art criticism to interpret and evaluate both their own work and the works of others. Students will recognize that while some sources of images are universal, the formation of an image is influenced by the artist’s choice of medium, historical setting, and the culture.

Art 21 (FNA24055)                                                                                                         5 credits

Art 21 is a continuation of Art 11, where the student develops a deeper understanding and a strong sense of craftsmanship. Building of the fundamentals learned in Art 11, students will take on more complex projects in the materials learned previously.  They will have control of their creative process from concept, to planning, to execution. This course is a hands-on learning experience of creating artifacts with materials such as wood, textiles, wire, and glass.

Art 30 (FNA34005)                                                                                                         5 credits

Art 30 students will develop a personal style through their own experiences and investigations as a source of image making. They will analyze the factors that generate a work of art or artistic movement and they will question sources of images that are relevant or significant to them in contemporary culture. Students should be highly motivated and self-disciplined. They will create a portfolio including individual and group projects. This portfolio can be used for entrance to post-secondary institutions.

Art 31 (FNA34055)                                                                                                         5 credits

Continuing from Art 21, students will have gained the skills and understanding of concepts related to functional art. Students will continue to develop their personal style and challenge themselves by creating multiple pieces that are cohesive in theme. This course examines the impact of international influences and modern technology on modern art and, in turn, modern art’s impact on society.

Ceramics Advanced 15 (LDC1059) Ÿ 25 (LDC2059) Ÿ 35 (LDC3059)                5 credits

The aim of the Ceramics course is intended to provide students with opportunities to develop knowledge, skills and abilities in the expression of thoughts, ideas and feeling through ceramics/clay. This course provides students with opportunities to develop an awareness and appreciation of the art of ceramics. Students will use a variety of techniques to resolve design challenges in 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional sculptures. Students will learn the operation maintenance of a ceramics studio. In this course students will learn to manipulate clay in a variety of ways including hand building and wheel throwing.
