Parent Council AGM

Tuesday, October 6 @ 6:30pm

Learning Commons

Many of our parents’ council sons and daughters have now graduated from Forest Lawn. This has left some vacancies on our parent council this year. We look forward to meeting new parents and the additions of new members this year. Please join us on Tuesday October 6 to learn more about how you can become a member of our parent council and contribute to our school culture.

Annual Notification – Video Surveillance

Our school has a video surveillance system to help maintain a safe and secure environment at the school for students, staff and the public, and to help address vandalism and criminal activity on school property.

The video surveillance system is installed and reviewed in accordance with Administrative Regulation 1066. Personal information is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), specifically section 10(1) and the Access to Information Act (ATIA).

This technology can be placed in areas such as the school parking lot, building entrances and exits, stairwells and hallways. This information is recorded and collected to help maintain a safe and secure environment in the school and on school property. The users of this information are the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.

Inquiries concerning the video surveillance system, or the collection and use of recorded information may be made by contacting the school office.

Limited Spectator Policy for Home Games

The safety and security of our students, staff, and community are always our top priority. To help ensure a safe and positive environment at all athletic events hosted at Forest Lawn High School, we will be continuing to enforce the following expectations for athletic events for this school year:

  • Student ID Required: All students attending athletic events must present their FLHS Student ID card at the entrance.
  • Parent/Guardian Presence: Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to attend games and other athletic events.
  • Closed Events: Attendance is limited to Forest Lawn students and their parents/immediate families.

These expectations apply to all athletic events at Forest Lawn, including football, volleyball, basketball, and other school-hosted competitions.

We recognize the importance of athletics in building school spirit and community. By following these guidelines, we can create a safe, secure, and supportive environment for all Titan athletes and their families.

Thank you for your cooperation and support as we work together to ensure that our athletic events reflect the values of respect, safety, and pride in our school community.

 Attendance

If your child is going to be late or absent to school, please email forestlawn@cbe.ab.ca; this is a much quicker method to relay this information.

Our school telephone lines are very busy in the morning, and we cannot answer every call, so please try to email in the absence information.

If you do leave a message, please do not expect the attendance to be completed before noon.  We have many phone messages per day and it takes some time to go through all of the attendance messages.

 Fragrance-Free Reminder

Students are not permitted to spray perfume, cologne, or other scented products in the school, classrooms, or locker areas. As several students and staff members have allergies and sensitivities to fragrances, we appreciate families reinforcing this expectation to help keep our learning environment safe and welcoming for all.

 Parking

  • Student safety is our priority.
  • There is no parking directly in front of the school between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • In order to load and unload our school buses safely, the space in front of the school must be kept clear.
  • Each bus requires two bus lengths to operate safely.
  • Parking is available in designated areas west of the school and on the east side of the school.
  • If you park directly across from the school, please ensure your student uses one of the two crosswalks. Jaywalking across the street and walking between the school buses is dangerous.
  • There is no student parking on school grounds.
  • Please be mindful of people using the crosswalks.
  • Parking, loading, and unloading of students in the staff parking lot is strictly prohibited.
  • The Calgary Police Service will be monitoring traffic around the school when they are available.

 Morning Entry

For the safety and security of all students, doors to the school will remain locked until 8:25 a.m.

Students are not permitted inside the building before this time unless they are participating in a school-designated activity and are directly supervised by staff.

We kindly ask parents and guardians to plan drop-off times accordingly. Thank you for helping us keep our school a safe and caring environment for everyone.

 Reminder - Online Forms

Each year, schools have a variety of forms that parents / legal guardians are required to complete or review and update, some of which are paper and others online. In CBE, the forms in an online format (SchoolEngage) are:

  • Demographic Verification – 2026-27 – This form includes your child’s personal information as well as parent / legal guardian contact information.
  • Citizenship Information Update – 2026-27 – This form becomes available if you change your child’s citizenship information on the Demographic Verification form.
  • Annual Authorization – 2026-27 – This form provides consent for school and district use of personal information.

SchoolEngage is one of the applications found in your MyCBE account. This is the same account that you use to pay fees, view academic information, book school conferences, etc.

If you do not have a MyCBE account, on the MyCBE page click on Create a MyCBE Account. For online help refer, to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video).
