Cosmetology 10 Intro (COS10XX) 9 credits
The Cosmetology program is comprised of three levels: Introductory, Intermediate and Advanced. Students study a progression of courses, learning more in-depth concepts and skills as they move from Introductory to Advanced levels within the curriculum and apprenticeship guidelines. This Introductory level is offered as a 9-credit course focusing on hair basics; then branches out into two different pathways: Barbering or the full Apprenticeship program. Introductory Cosmetology emphasizes on the art and science of hair, personal and professional image, as well as learning skills and techniques on long and short hair designs.

Intermediate Cosmetology (COS10XXB) 9 credits
The Intermediate course is designed for those students interested in Barbering and/or students who want to acquire more technical skill in the hair industry. Students may continue into the Advanced Apprenticeship program upon completion of Intermediate Cosmetology.The focus for the modules will be on developing your skills from Introductory Cosmetology 10, working with new technologies, learning the fundamentals of hair cutting and barbering, including new styles and trends. Students will also be marked on their basic competence during laboratory work. This includes their work ethic, self-confidence, attendance and punctuality, professionalism, and sanitary practices.

Cosmetology 20 Inter Apprentice (COS20XX) up to 23 credits total for 20/30
This pathway is designed for students looking to enter the hair industry, and gain the education needed to apprentice in a salon to obtain their Red Seal. Cosmetology 20 continues building on skills previously acquired; as well as preparing students for customer service and the industry. Students will learn about a career which allows them to be an integral part of the Beauty and Fashion industry. Students learn to design suitable hairstyles for clients and also learn the fundamentals in hair cutting, texturizing, public relations, sales, manicures and more.

Cosmetology 30 Adv Apprentice (COS30XX) up to 23 credits total for 20/30
Practical skills in this program are obtained in two ways: within the school (client service) and the community (work experience/RAP). Practical work in a career setting allows the student to become aware of industry standards and employable skills both in and out of the classroom.

Alberta Apprenticeship Requirements for Cosmetology
The Cosmetology program is sequential, and certain prerequisites are required to advance to the next level. Cosmetology begins at the Introductory level, then branches out into either Barbering or Full Apprenticeship hairdressing program.
The apprenticeship program is an introductory nine-credit syllabus, designed to introduce the student to basic hair and skin care techniques. Intermediate Cosmetology focuses on Barbering and haircutting techniques. Cosmetology 20 expands on skills learned in the Introductory program in addition to learning basic hair cutting and colouring skills. These skills allow the student to provide basic services for clients in the customer services portion of the program. Cosmetology 30 is designed to prepare the students for employment in related careers; self-confidence, speed, accuracy, customer relations, and work ethics are emphasized.
Students can apply for apprenticeship in the hairdressing industry at any point while successfully completing the 42 mandatory credits (1400 hours) in Cosmetology. If this is your goal, the teachers will work with you to accomplish the required credits and hours.

Cosmetology 10-4 (KAE1581) 20-4 (KAE2581) 30-4 (KAE3581) 10 credits each
This program is designed to introduce students to future opportunities in Cosmetology through hands-on experiential learning. Cosmetology 10-4 students explore best-practice in the field of hair-dressing and aesthetics; including Workplace readiness that is 5-credits. Cosmetology 20-4 and 30-4 students specialize in hairstyling and salon industry best-practices through real world opportunities with community clients. Upon completion, students will be prepared for career or post-secondary opportunities in the cosmetology pathway. Cosmo 20-4 and 30-4 will include a 5-credit workplace practicum.
