Do you want to understand why computers operate the way they do? When a computer breaks, are you the first person your friends or family turn to for help? Are you considering a career in the Information Technology field? If so, then IT Essentials is for you! Our world increasingly relies on computers and there is a great need for people with the necessary skills to program and operate computers. IT Essentials introduces key concepts of data communications and the underlying theory of information technologies. A hands-on, project-based course, IT Essentials gives students experience and knowledge in hardware assembly, software installation, computer operations, basic networking, and diagnostics.

IT Essentials 20 (INF299XA) 5 credits
Building on previously attained knowledge, senior IT Essentials classes immerse students in hands-on tasks to further develop their skill set and knowledge. IT Essentials 20 focuses on networking; specifically how computers communicate and the technologies underpinning the internet.
Prerequisite: IT Essentials 10
IT Essentials 30 (INF399XA) 5 credits
Project-based and student-led, the topics this course focus on mastering skills for a career in IT support. Previous projects have focused on diagnostics, virtualization, malware, operating systems, software installation, and basic PC assembly/disassembly.
